My Favorite Musicians
Greg Brown - A magical songwriter and a nice guy - he signed something weird for me once.
Adam Carroll - Great guy and his songs really give you a feel for East Texas and Louisiana.
Guy Clark - A fine gentleman and songwriter; after reading his biography, I wish I could have been in the songwriter's academy back then.
Slaid Cleaves - Slaid's songs and style more than any other suit my voice and taste.
Iris DeMent - Saw her recently at Old Settler's - be sure to watch her in Songcatcher.
Steve Earle - "Train a'Comin'" is one of the best Americana albums of all time, in my humble opinion.
Robbie Fulks - Signed my CD "thanks for all the money" ... Revenge is a great, great album.
The Greencards - Got into them thanks to some friends at Life's a Song .. pick up Movin' On!
Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines - Friends, good friends - thanks a lot y'all.
Ray Wylie Hubbard - Everyone should get to spend 10 minutes with Ray Wylie.
Robert Earl Keen - Thanks for taking pictures with us in Michigan, sorry if we were kind of dorky about it.
Alison Krauss and Union Station - What else is there to say?
Del McCoury Band - What all bluegrass musicians should aspire to.
James McMurtry - "We Can't Make It Here" is one of the best songs I ever heard.
Michael O'Connor - Another fine songwriter who works with Slaid Cleaves and Adam Carroll. Catch him if you can.
Old Crow Medicine Show - I wish I had one tenth of their energy on stage. If you can only choose one concert to go to, go see OCMS.
Rush - Okay, a little out of place maybe, but they were a big influence for me.
Chris Smither - I only wish I could play like him.
Todd Snider - The undisputed master of stage presence.
Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez - Someday I'll get up the guts to ask Carrie if she's related to Bender.
The Dixie Chicks - I am constantly amazed by how good they are, and they still manage to get radio play.
Townes van Zandt - Rest in peace.
Gillian Welch - Yeah, I was the one waving at you when the house lights wouldn't go down in Houston.
Cheryl Wheeler - I'm pretty sure she wrote "Unworthy" about me.
Dwight Yoakum - Thanks for "Population: Me" - many happy hours.
